Virgin Falls Waterfall Hike

Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness is one of the most unusual waterfall hikes within driving distance of Chattanooga. The drive from Deer Creek Cabin or Rocky Top cabin is about an hour but is very scenic and a very easy ride. This hike is for the more experienced as it has four falls to enjoy on a 9 mile loop. It is so beautiful and a really fun day of hiking and exploring the Cumberland Plateau. This hike offers a little bit of everything. It has a cave that flows several hundred feet above ground, before plunging 110 feet. At the base of the falls it disappears back underground. The hike also offers a great cave mouth at Big Laurel Falls, with it’s 80 foot ceiling and expansive breadth. The trail drops off after Big Branch Falls, going from an easy to a moderate level of difficulty in hiking. Big Laurel is the first of the major attractions in this pocket wilderness. It is about 2 miles in to your hike. After Big Laurel Falls, the trail continues to Virgin Falls on the left. Virgin falls is the most unusual feature of the hike because of its different views of the cave. The Virgin Falls Loop section will lead you to Sheep Falls. The trail is nice but it pretty easy after all the previous treks of the day. If you are looking for a good long day of hiking and exploring caves and waterfalls, this is the hike for you!
So make your reservation today for a great getaway to Deer Creek Cabin or Rocky Top Cabin and be sure to make plans for a great day of hiking and exploring. I hope to have you as a guest soon.
