Piney Falls-Beautiful Waterfalls and Great Hiking!

Just a short distance from Deer Creek and Rocky Top Cabin is beautiful Piney Falls. This State Natural Area offers gorgeous views of waterfalls and a great hiking trail. Piney falls is a 440 acre natural area that is one of the 13 National Natural Landmarks found in Tennessee. It has a 2.5 miles round trip hike that is for the more experienced hiker. Its offers some difficulty in climbing and has some steep drop offs to be watchful of. Stay on the trail and it will take you thru the bluff to Upper Piney Falls. This waterfall plunges 80 feet over a lip of rock and splashes into rock at the bottom before flowing into a pool. At times of high water, it’s quite a rush of water. The trail passes behind the waterfall and circles around to pass down stream for a short distance, climbing and passing along the rock bluff. At the top of the bluff, the trail turns right and follows the bluff line back toward the upper falls. Short paths will take you to the overlooks of the falls at the bluff’s edge. Eventually, the trail passes above the falls and then takes you back to a creek just above the falls. When the water is low, you can definitely wade thru and play on the rocks. When the water gets high (and it does) you will need to pay close attention and be careful on the slippery rocks. This is a beautiful area to hike and explore the outside nature at its best. The waterfalls are beautiful anytime, but especially in the Spring and Fall so make your reservation today for Deer Creek Cabin or Rocky Top Cabin for a great getaway weekend to do some great hiking and get back to nature. Hope to have you as a guest soon!
