Lost Creek Falls-Great Place to Explore!

Lost Creek State Natural Area is located in the western portion of the Cumberland Plateau.  While the area is located in White county, which is just a few minutes away from Rocky Top Cabin and Deer Creek Cabin.  The scenery in this area is very spectacular.  Lost Creek itself emerges from a large spring and a collapsed cave on top that drops over the 40 foot tall falls and then disappears again. The Falls and Cave open into a large bowl that has no surface drainage, therefore, cold air is trapped in the hottest and most humid times of summer.  This coolness makes the rocks and vegetation become rich with moisture so that it produces rich ferns, flowers and liverworts in the bottom of the bowl in Spring and Summer.   It’s really an awesome sight to see!  Walt Disney Corporation thought so too, because in 1994 they filmed several scenes from the “Jungle Book” in this area.  Showing off the beautiful falls as well as the Cave entrance.  Lost Creek Cave is one of the larger caves in Tennessee.  It has 5 entrances and 7 miles of mapped passages.  Lost Creek is a very popular recreational cave.  A little trivia about Lost Creek State Natural Area is that is was obtained by the public from James and Lillan Rylander and their family.  Mr. Rylander put this area in his will, and upon his death, it was transferred to the State, for the area’s protection by the public.  What a very generous gift from the Rylander’s that everyone gets to enjoy.  Some general information to know before you strike to explore is the area is open year round and has about 1 mile of trial on the property.  The area closes down at sundown to sunup.  Maps can be found on line at http://www.alltrails.com  I also keep maps of all the area attractions at Rocky Top Cabin and Deer Creek Cabin.  Please feel free to help yourself to one if you need it.

Make your reservation today at Rocky Top Cabin or Deer Creek Cabin and come and enjoy this beautiful area.
