Green Mcadoo Cultural Center

This is a must do while you are in the area!  Visit the Green McAdoo Cultural Center for Black history month.  This museum is dedicated to the “Clinton 12” that pays respect to the 12 black students integrated into Clinton High School.  Taking place in 1956, it became the first desegregated public high school in the south.  This place will get your attention before you even walk thru the door.  The 12 life size bronze statues of the “Clinton 12” stand proudly at the door before entering the museum.  From there, you will get to sit in a classroom and hear what it was like in that time and the history of the school.  You will also learn the beliefs that were taught in that era of being able to choose and go to any school they wished.  This is an awesome place to take your children to get a very valuable lesson in history.  While you are at Deer Creek Cabin or Rocky Top Cabin, take some time and make the short trip over to Oakridge, TN and learn all this museum has to offer.  Check out  http://www.greenmcadoo.org for all information regarding this great place to visit.
