Cumberland Caverns-Awesome Adventure!

This is a must see while you are in this area.  Cumberland Caverns is located in McMinnville, TN which just a short drive from Deer Creek Cabin or Rocky Top Cabin.  Cumberland Caverns is a magnificent cavern that is 32 miles long.  While you probably will not want to go thru all of it, there are short guided tours for everyone to enjoy.  The beauty and history of this cave is truly amazing.  The main entrance was discovered by Aaron Higgenbotham in 1810 while he was surveying property on Cardwell Mountain in Warren County.  Legend has it, Mr.  Higgenbotham was the first to enter the cave and therefore it was named in his honor.  So Higgenbotham Cave became very popular to locals during the 19th century and groups would come from far away to see the cave.  In the early 1940’s, members of the National Speleological Society (NSS) began to explore this area and within a few years, they learned of many of the caves that were connected.  Eventually, explorers leased the cave from its owner, Andy Powell and developed it into a commercial cave.  Cumberland Caverns was opened under its new name on July 4, 1956 and has been open to the public since that time. It is the second longest cave in Tennessee and is also on the list of the longest caves in the United States and the World.  This is  just a small piece of  Cumberland Caverns that has so much history to learn about and you can read all about it at http://www.cumberlandcaverns.comCumberland Caverns is open daily and has walking tours that leave every hour.  They also have caving tours for the more adventurous cavers in your group.  This is a great way to spend the day with family and friends so make your reservation today to stay with us at Deer Creek Cabin or Rocky Top Cabin and get out and go caving at beautiful Cumberland Caverns.  Hope to see ya there!
