Signal Mountain’s Rainbow Lake & Falls

If you like to hike, you must go and enjoy this popular trail and beautiful lake. Rainbow Lake is owned by the town of Signal Mountain and is part of the Rainbow Lake Wilderness. Originally constructed in 1916 by the owner of the local hotel, the lake was only 15 feet deep at that time so it was a popular recreational spot for guests and residents alike. Over the past century, sedimentation has made the lake much shallower. While it is a man-made structure the scenery is simply breathtaking. The hike from Rainbow Lake Trailhead to Rainbow Lake is a nice easy trail that is great for beginners. When you get to the lake, there is a lovely place to stop and enjoy lunch, take pictures and explore the beautiful area. There is also a great area to swim by the dam, in the summer months. If you want to hike more, keep going and you will run into the Signal Mountain swinging bridge. Its a great place for photos to make precious memories. But don’t stop there, keep going and you will get the best view of the day. The falls are close by and you will probably hear the water flowing! There are several paths to get down to the falls themselves, pick the one that suits you best and go down to enjoy the fantastic scenery and take more memorable pictures. Head back up before nightfall and follow the trail that will lead you back to your starting point. For a nice end of the day treat, stop by any of the local restaurants and have a refreshing cocktail and take in some more beautiful views of the Tennessee River. Plan you getaway weekend today at Deer Creek Cabin or Rocky Top Cabin, and make plans to enjoy this awesome area.
